What is Chimpanzee Discovery Day?

Mon May 19, 2008

Chimpanzee Discovery Days are days when guests have the opportunity to observe the chimpanzees in their natural forested habitats and observe them during the day. Visitors are able to tour the sanctuary using the groomed trails with overlooks and generous views of the two five-acre habitats from across the barrier moat. There are numerous activities and educational opportunities for the entire family. Staff members are on hand for "Chimp Chats" to discuss chimpanzee behavior and medical care, the housing and feeding of the chimpanzees, and answer questions about their care at the sanctuary.

Each Chimpanzee Discovery Day takes place from 9am to Noon. The event is free and open to everyone; however donations are welcome and gratefully accepted. Each Chimpanzee Discovery Day will take place rain or shine. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. It is recommended that guests also arrive early for best observation of the chimpanzees since, like humans, the chimpanzees prefer the shade of the forest during the later hours.
