About Sarah Anne
Birthday: 8/1/59 | Member of Henry’s Family
Sarah Anne is the oldest chimpanzee living at Chimp Haven. Though she was born in the wild, she has spent the majority of her 56 years in captivity. She was taken from her mother as an infant and brought to the United States for research purposes. Sarah Anne is best known for her role in one of the earliest nonhuman-ape language acquisition studies in which she learned to communicate through the use of symbolic tokens which earned Sarah her very own Wikipedia page. Today, Sarah Anne spends her days wrapped in blankets and observing her surroundings from the tops of play structures.
