Welcome Them Home Capital Campaign
We’re not that different. That’s Chimp Haven’s belief. Like humans, chimps have personalities, emotions and relationships. That’s why we’re on a mission to give research chimps a happy, healthy life in retirement.
In 2015, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) ended federally funded biomedical research on chimpanzees. As the only designated sanctuary for NIH-owned chimpanzees, Chimp Haven has the great privilege and responsibility to provide a home for the more than 200 additional retired chimpanzees still housed in research facilities. We are eager to bring these chimps into our care, but further expansion is urgently needed so we can welcome them home.
Chimp Haven is private non-profit sanctuary. Although the federal government partially supports the lifetime care of NIH-owned chimpanzees, we rely upon the generosity of individuals, foundations and other supporters to cover the remaining cost of care. In addition, Chimp Haven is covering 100 percent of new construction costs so we can build more habitats and housing to accommodate additional chimpanzees still waiting for sanctuary.
In the meantime, retired chimpanzees continue to arrive for their chance to experience the good life – the chimp life. New larger families are climbing trees, wandering the forest and exploring the natural terrain. Their only concern is choosing which chimp friends to spend their peace-filled retirement with and which structure to climb to soak up the Louisiana sun. You can’t beat that!
Providing the chimp life and a peaceful environment for these special individuals is our singular purpose. We invite you to be part of this historic effort by donating today or contacting Chimp Haven’s Chief Development and Marketing Officer, Taylor Shead at email@example.com or 214-207-2386 for more information. Please help us Welcome Them Home. They are depending on us.
