About Chimpanzee Discovery Day
Every year, hundreds of visitors from all over the country come to Shreveport to visit Chimp Haven for an up-close look at the lives of the chimpanzee retirees. As a sanctuary, Chimp Haven is only open to the public two times each year, making each Chimpanzee Discovery Day a special event that visitors plan and look forward to for months. From observing chimp families in their forested habitats, to learning about life at sanctuary from a variety of interactive stations, Chimpanzee Discovery Days provide a fun, educational experience for all ages.

About Chimp Haven
Outside Shreveport, Louisiana, on 200 acres of beautiful, forested sanctuary, nearly 300 chimpanzees, many of whom were used in biomedical research, are living the good life — or, as we like to call it, the Chimp Life. At Chimp Haven, chimps retired from research experience the joys they would have enjoyed in the wild: climbing trees, living in large, bonded social groups, eating their favorite fruits, running, playing, exploring, and — best of all — choosing how they spend their days.
