At Chimp Haven, everything revolves around giving the chimps their very best retirement – and lucky for them, their caregivers love coming up with creative new ways to make their days feel special.

Birthdays are no exception. Caregivers spend weeks planning elaborate homemade parties, brainstorming around themed decor and gifts, and even baking artisanal desserts adorned with fresh fruits that spell out the chimps’ names. Anything to make them feel extra special on their special day.

This month Cybill celebrates her landmark 30th birthday, and of course, her care team had to go all out to celebrate their beloved little turkey!

In true festive fall spirit, Cybill’s turkey-themed birthday party featured plenty of her favorite treats on the menu: carrots. Some were the real deal, while the faux versions were stuffed with sunflower seeds, popcorn, and peanuts for the chimps to tear into. Groupmates and bold ladies Maxi and Queenie B wasted no time digging into the goodies on display. Maxi enjoyed the festive chaos on the ground while Queenie B took her treats straight up to her favorite post on her structure, where she could enjoy them while looking down at her loyal subjects.

Both Cybill and her groupmates enthusiastically tore into the “gifts” of wrapped enrichment. Meanwhile, neighbors Henry and TJ climbed up to the highest points on their structures to sneak a peek at what all the fuss was about next door.

Ed was thrilled to find a stuffed carrot – he’ll be celebrating his birthday soon, so he has lots of birthday party practice. And even grumpy girl Kala seemed to get in the spirit as she enjoyed the beautiful day and special treats.
