With Valentineβs Day coming up, weβre celebrating ALL the love here at the sanctuary. One of the most wonderful things about life at Chimp Haven is watching new friendships, families, bromances, and, yes, even romances, develop between the retirees. Weβre excited to share a few of those love stories here with you the next two weeks!
This story was shared by our Colony Director, Michelle:
Β
Pee Wee has a place in everyoneβs heart: He is not a high-ranking individual, both because of his size (he is βweeβ) and because of his personality (he is way too polite).
Β
He was part of a bachelor group of 11 boys, and heβs the kid who always gets picked last for the team. That is until his group was added to a female bachelor group of nine.
Β
Two of the ladies, including a higher-ranking female, Fancy, took a quick shine to Pee Wee. Fancy is quick to defend Pee Wee if the other males try to pick on him. She also reassures him when he cries, which he does much less frequently now.
Being with Fancy has given him confidence and he takes a more active part in whatβs happening within the group. Of course, if he becomes too confident, Fancy quickly lets him know that heβs stepping outside of the lines, and then he behaves as a gentleman again.
Β
As for Jane, she and Pee Wee often sit together and she will also take care of him when needed. If Pee Wee gets into trouble, both ladies are quick to drop what they are doing and come to his aid.
Β
If thatβs not squad goals, we donβt know what is. More love to come!
