Love Stories: Cammy & Theo

With Valentine’s Day coming up, we’re celebrating ALL the love here at the sanctuary. One of the most wonderful things about life at Chimp Haven is watching new friendships, families, bromances, and, yes, even romances, develop between the retirees. We’re excited to share a few of those love stories here with you this week!

Thirty-nine-year-old Cammy and 29-year-old Theo both came to the sanctuary in 2016 from a research facility in Texas. During their time together at Chimp Haven, a heartwarming friendship has blossomed in which Cammy sweetly looks out for Theo — which is often a big help to staff!

“Sometimes it takes Theo a little time and a lot of coaxing to come outside in the morning,” says Behavior Technician Jordan.

“Cammy never strays far from his room, and will look inside, bobbing her head reassuringly. Often she’ll go back inside to see what he’s up to. She won’t fully join the morning food toss until he’s there with her. It’s very sweet and very helpful.”

“He just takes a while to make up his mind, and she’s very patient,” adds Caregiver Miranda C. “They’re sweet together. She takes care of him, and we always know, if Cammy head’s back inside, she’s just checking on Theo.”

Aww, we all need a friend like Cammy!
